To improve your team, first work on yourself

In the world of business, personal development in the form of 1:1 coaching, is seen as an exception.

I think one of the reasons for that is the cost often associated with coaching. If you are a mid-level manager perhaps newish to your role or have been in your role for a while, you will know that your organisation doesn't routinely have the budget to provide executive coaching support.

You may have been promoted to a leadership role for the first time, because of the skills and expertise you exhibited in your old role. However, what got you there, are not the skills required to manage a team well.

As Jim Rohn says: "A good objective of leadership is to help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing well to do even better."

With this focus, how do you tap into your hidden potential and untapped strengths and in turn tap into those of your team?

Great leadership is the ability to lift both yourself and lift your team to perform even better.

Your ongoing development is crucial to be able to do this.

Start by increasing your level of self-awareness. Click here to download the first three chapters of my book 'Connecting Us'.

How else are you enhancing your leadership skills?

Think about this - If you had a budget to spend on your development what would you spend it on first?
